Stoney was a 22 year old Asian bull elephant born in the 1970s. He performed in a show at the Luxor. In 1994, he was severely injured while performing a hind-leg stand during a rehearsal. Unable to walk, he was kept upright in a cattle crush inside of a shed behind the hotel. A year later, an attempt to move Stoney resulted in him injuring his other leg. He died that day.
The Performing Animal Welfare Society documented and raised awareness about Stoney's treatment during the incident.
