The Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON) began operating in 1958.
On May 4, 1988, two major explosions measuring 3.0 and 3.5 on the Richter scale occured at PEPCON. Two people died and three hundred seventy two people were injured. The explosion also caused damage miles away. The Las Vegas Hilton's windows were shattered as a result of the explosion. The explosion destroyed the PEPCON plant and its neighboring Kidd Marshmallow plant.
PEPCON was located northwest of present-day North Gibson Road and Wigwam Parkway in Henderson, Nevada.
