Las Vegas Fires

On November 21, 1980, an electrical fire at the MGM Grand killed 85 people and injured 650. To date, this is the deadliest disaster in Nevada history.

Three months later on February 10, 1981, an arson fire at the Las Vegas Hilton killed 8 people and injured 350. A notable guest that day was entertainer Natalie Cole.

These events prompted the state of Nevada to implement new required fire codes and safety measures for any building open to the public.

Event Location: MGM Grand became Bally's Las Vegas in 1986. Las Vegas Hilton became Westgate Las Vegas in 2014.
